Welcome to the fun and enjoyable pastime of playing the guitar. This guide book will take you through all the necessary steps to accomplish this goal. With a little practice on your part, (about half an hour a day, three days a week) and you should be playing easy to more difficult songs in about one month or less.
The guitar is not only a very versatile instrument, but also, it’s a very compact instrument. You can take your guitar on camping trips, for instance, playing while sitting around the campfire, or even on a canoe, floating down the river—there are so many possibilities. This guide will teach you the fundamentals of the guitar, such as: the essential parts of the guitar plus brief descriptions; important basic chords; the strings and finger placement; strumming and plucking the strings; playing a variety of songs; bar chords; and very importantly, tuning the guitar.
Lesson 1 will teach you a very simple song, right from the start, (“Down in the Valley”, an old ballad known by all), using just one finger and the down stroke. Each lesson, as you continue, will get a little bit more difficult, until you progress to the final lessons, which will culminate in a succession of bar chords. Just remember, the bottom line is—all it takes is PRACTICE…PRACTICE…PRACTICE… and soon you’ll be well on the way to mastering the basic guitar.
